Nowruz Celebrated in British Museum for First Time Ever

TEHRAN April 4 (Mehr News Agency) –- British Museum for the first time in its history celebrated Nowruz and Sizdah Bedar on April 3-4.

The museum represented several art and cultural programs for Iranians residing in Britain, and for British citizens interested in ancient Persian heritage and culture.

Ancient Iranian sports as well as artists working on handicrafts such as carpet weaving and pottery were displayed. An Iranian picnic was also held in a wide green area of the museum.

Several educational tours highlighting ancient Iranian heritage housed at the museum were also organized during the program.

Vesta Sarkhosh, an expert on Iran at the British Museum, and an organizer of the ceremony, said that holding such a program is an effort to gather the Iranian nation together, also to familiarize British people and other foreign nations with the rich culture of Persia.

Sizdeh Bedar is 13th day of the New Year; Iranians leave their houses on this day going to nature to avoid the bad omen of the number 13. This day is also considered to be a reunion with the green of nature in the springtime.
